Robert R. Kuske, MD

Dr.
Robert Kuske
moved toScottsdale
after leading thebreast cancer
program at the University of Wisconsin as Full Professor of Human Oncology. Before that, he was chairman ofRadiation Oncology
at the famed Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, where he was also Chief of Staff over 470 physicians.
He helped build and lead the new
Cancer Center
at Tulane Medical School. While in New Orleans, Dr. Kuske and colleagues pioneered "accelerated partial breast irradiation
," (APBI) a5-day alternative
to conventional 6 weeks ofexternal beam whole breast irradiation
in selectearly-stage breast cancer
. This is now one of the hottest topics in breast cancer, and the subject of 5 international randomized clinical trials worldwide. He is a co-principal investigator of the North American 4300 patient phase III trial through the NSABP and RTOG, approved and funded by the National Cancer Institute.Dr. Kuske
is passionate about teaching and sharing his knowledge with medical students, residents, practicing physicians, and (yes!) patients. His expertise in this important and often understated role foroncologists
has been recognized by the American Association for Cancer Education (AACE), which elected him President in 2002 and named him a "Fellow of the AACE" the following year. Dr. Robert Kuske has been asked to deliver 25 lectureships per year over the last decade. He has recently been selected to run "TheInternational Breast Course
" in 2010, with doctors from all over the world convening to learn the latest about breast diagnosis and treatment. This course covers bothbenign and malignant breast disease
, with cases televised live to the participants. Why go to the student to have yourradiation treatments
, when you can go to the professor?!
Dr. Kuske also earned the "Top Doc" recognition for Radiation Oncology in the 2010 and 2011 Phoenix Magazine "Top Doc" issue.
Physicians selected for this recognition are selected through a peer-review survey. The theory is that medical professionals
are best qualified to judge medical professionals. To select the physicians, PHOENIX magazine randomly surveys
5,000 Valley physicians, including M.D.s (medical doctors), D.O.s (osteopathic doctors) and N.D.s/N.M.Ds (naturopathic doctors).
The surveys ask the doctors to nominate other doctors who, in their judgment, are the best in their field and related fields. Congratulations
Dr. Kuske!
